What friable asbestos removal in Sydney actually involves

The removalist seals the work area off from the rest of the house and the property, and air monitoring checks the removal method is working. SafeWork NSW says the business that commissions the work must engage an independent licensed asbestos assessor for that monitoring.

Before you move back in

An independent asbestos assessor issues the clearance certificate for friable work, and the site stays empty until it does. Keep the certificate with the disposal receipt.

Loose-fill asbestos is raw crushed friable asbestos, used as ceiling insulation in some NSW homes in the 1960s and 1970s. If you think it is in your ceiling, do not go into the ceiling space: call a licensed asbestos assessor. No current government list names a Sydney council or suburb as affected; the state register works as an address search and lists only homes that tested positive.
